Step-by-Step Guide: Converting Songs into Ringtones Using 4Media Ringtone Maker
What you’ll need
- 4Media Ringtone Maker installed (Windows or Mac version)
- Source audio or video file (MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, AVI, etc.)
- Optional: iTunes (for transferring M4R to iPhone)
Steps
- Open 4Media Ringtone Maker.
- Click “Add File” or drag-and-drop your audio/video file into the program.
- Select the file in the list and use the built-in player to find the segment you want.
- Set start and end points (can enter times to milliseconds) to clip the desired section (max ~40s for iPhone).
- (Optional) Apply fade-in and/or fade-out effects and adjust volume.
- Choose output format: M4R for iPhone, MP3/WAV/AMR/M4A/OGG for other phones.
- Adjust output parameters (bitrate, sample rate, channels) if needed.
- Click “Convert” or “Make Ringtone” to create the file.
- Preview the created ringtone in the program to confirm.
- Transfer to device:
- For iPhone: add the .m4r file to iTunes, then sync with your iPhone (or use Finder on recent macOS).
- For Android/other phones: copy the file to the Ringtones folder on the device via USB or cloud storage.
Tips
- Keep iPhone ringtones ≤40 seconds.
- Batch conversion is available for making multiple ringtones at once.
- Use higher bitrate for better sound quality; lower bitrate for smaller file size.
- If a file format isn’t supported, first convert it to a common audio format (MP3/WAV) before creating the ringtone.
Troubleshooting
- If ringtone won’t play on phone, confirm correct file format and file placement (Ringtones folder) and re-sync.
- If the program won’t import a file, try converting the source to MP3 or WAV first.
- Ensure 4Media and iTunes/Finder are up to date for compatibility.
